Accessibility Statement
Last updated: February 24, 2026 · Version 1.0
1. Our Commitment
NowMedical, Inc. is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people of all abilities. We believe that healthcare should be accessible to everyone, and that includes the technology used to access healthcare services. We are continually improving the user experience for all visitors and applying the relevant accessibility standards to ensure we provide equal access to all users.
We strive to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines define how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning, and neurological disabilities.
Our commitment extends to compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, the European Accessibility Act (EAA), and EN 301 549 (the European standard for digital accessibility).
2. Conformance Status
The current accessibility conformance status of the NowMedical platform is as follows:
| Standard | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| WCAG 2.1 Level A | Fully Conformant | All Level A criteria are met. |
| WCAG 2.1 Level AA | Partially Conformant | Most Level AA criteria are met. Known limitations are documented below. |
| WCAG 2.1 Level AAA | Partial Support | Some Level AAA criteria are met where practical. |
| Section 508 | Conformant | Meets Section 508 requirements through WCAG 2.1 AA conformance. |
| EN 301 549 | Partially Conformant | Aligned with EN 301 549 requirements through WCAG 2.1 AA conformance. |
Definitions: Fully conformant means the content fully conforms to the standard without any exceptions. Partially conformant means some parts of the content do not fully conform to the standard; known gaps are being actively addressed.
3. Accessibility Features
We have implemented the following accessibility features across the NowMedical platform:
Keyboard Navigation
- All interactive elements (links, buttons, form fields, menus, modals) are fully accessible via keyboard.
- Logical tab order follows the visual reading order of the page.
- Skip navigation links are provided to bypass repetitive content and jump to main content areas.
- Keyboard shortcuts are available for common actions (documented in the platform help center).
- No keyboard traps exist; users can navigate away from all components using standard keyboard controls.
Screen Reader Compatibility
- Tested with NVDA (Windows), VoiceOver (macOS/iOS), and TalkBack (Android).
- ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) landmarks, roles, states, and properties are used throughout the platform.
- Dynamic content changes are announced to assistive technologies using ARIA live regions.
- Form inputs are programmatically associated with their labels, instructions, and error messages.
- Custom components (date pickers, dropdowns, modals) include appropriate ARIA attributes.
Color and Visual Design
- Text meets a minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text (WCAG 2.1 AA Level 1.4.3).
- Non-text elements (icons, form boundaries, charts) meet a minimum contrast ratio of 3:1 (WCAG 2.1 AA Level 1.4.11).
- Color is never used as the sole means of conveying information; visual indicators such as icons, patterns, or text labels are always provided alongside color.
- Link text is distinguishable from surrounding body text through underlines or other non-color indicators.
Text and Content
- All images include descriptive alternative text (alt text) that conveys the meaning or function of the image.
- Decorative images are marked with empty alt attributes so screen readers can skip them.
- Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.
- Content reflows properly at different viewport sizes without horizontal scrolling (up to 320px width).
- Page titles are descriptive and unique for each page.
- Headings are used in a logical, hierarchical order (h1 through h6).
Focus Indicators
- Visible focus indicators are provided on all interactive elements.
- Focus indicators have sufficient contrast (at least 3:1 against adjacent colors).
- Focus order follows a logical and intuitive sequence.
- Focus is managed appropriately when modals, dialogs, and overlays open and close.
Responsive Design
- The platform is fully responsive and usable across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
- Touch targets meet a minimum size of 44x44 CSS pixels (WCAG 2.5.5 AAA / 2.5.8).
- Content adapts to both portrait and landscape orientations without restriction.
- Pinch-to-zoom is not disabled; users can zoom up to 500% on mobile devices.
Reduced Motion Support
- Animations and transitions respect the
prefers-reduced-motionoperating system setting. - When reduced motion is enabled, animations are minimized or replaced with instant state changes.
- No content relies on motion alone to convey meaning.
- Auto-playing video or animation can be paused, stopped, or hidden by the user.
Semantic HTML
- Semantic HTML5 elements are used throughout (header, nav, main, section, article, aside, footer).
- Lists use proper list markup (ul, ol, li).
- Tables include appropriate headers (th), captions, and scope attributes.
- Forms use fieldset and legend elements for related groups of form controls.
- Language attributes are set on the html element and on any elements with a different language.
Telehealth Accessibility
- Video call controls are keyboard accessible and labeled for screen readers.
- Captions and transcription options are available during telehealth visits.
- Audio-only participation is supported for patients who cannot use video.
- Chat functionality is available as an alternative communication method during visits.
4. Technologies Used
The accessibility of the NowMedical platform relies on the following technologies:
- HTML5
- CSS3 (including CSS custom properties and media queries)
- JavaScript (ECMAScript 2020+)
- WAI-ARIA 1.2 (Accessible Rich Internet Applications)
- React 19 and Next.js 15 (with server-side rendering for improved accessibility)
- SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) with appropriate accessibility attributes
The platform is designed to work with the following assistive technology combinations:
- NVDA with Firefox and Chrome (Windows)
- JAWS with Chrome and Edge (Windows)
- VoiceOver with Safari (macOS and iOS)
- TalkBack with Chrome (Android)
- Windows Narrator with Edge (Windows)
